Safeguarding a Global Heritage

In light of FIVA's global stature and its dedication towards the promotion of the preservation of historic vehicles and passing on their related technologies to future generations, FIVA has worked to enhance the value of this truly unique industrial heritage and to foster intercultural exchange. This can be evidenced by the publication by FIVA of the seminal document the "Turin Charter", which is dedicated to the art of not only preserving historical vehicles, but also buildings and artefacts related to historical vehicles. The Charter serves to protect the historic substance of historic vehicles and ensure, through their active use, maintenance, conservation, restoration and repair, that future generations will be able to enjoy their cultural treasures. In light of such an approach, it should be of no surprise that FIVA has a proud and longstanding cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), culminating in a comprehensive cultural partnership and consultative NGO status in 2017.

Today, among FIVA's key priorities is not only the promotion, protection and preservation of historic vehicles, but also the responsible use of historic vehicles and young timers (vehicles between 20 and 30 years old) on public roads for the benefit of their owners, enthusiasts and the general public. FIVA's dedicated and specialized commissions work to ensure this mandate.
